An other year has almost come to an end. A good occasion to look back over the last year...

Hello,

this is the changelog of the recent Core Update 96, which has just been uploaded to the testing tree. Please give it a good test over the holidays and don't forget the bug reporting.

This is the official release announcement for IPFire 2.17 – Core Update 95 which is a bigger release with a new kernel and various smaller feature enhancements and bug fixes.

p(lead)=. It is starting to get cold in Europe as the year is coming to an end. That gives us time to go back into the lab and design new hardware that I would like to present to you in this post.

Hello,

we have made the next Core Update available for testing. It comes with various feature enhancements, improvements, and security and bug fixes.

p(lead)=. For the first time, we have produced IPFire Stickers. Have a look:

When I recently announced that we have some "hosting issues":http://planet.ipfire.org/post/on-our-hosting-issues. This was intended to be a public service announcement but instead I got a lot of emails from people who wanted to help us out. Unfortunately the problems were a bit bigger than expected and could not be solved very easily. Eventually we got to a very good solution that we are now working on and we need your help for!

Today is DNSSEC Day. A day where German IT publisher Heise focusses on DNSSEC, the technology behind it, and the security benefits. There is "a live stream":http://www.heise.de/netze/artikel/Am-30-Juni-ist-DNSSEC-Day-2691734.html with the creators of DNSSEC and useful tips and tricks for admins. The event is sponsored by "DENIC":http://www.denic.de and the German "Federal Office for Information Security":http://bsi.bund.de (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik).

After facebook and twitter we decided to create a google+ page to keep you up to date what is happening at IPFire.org.

It is now a couple of years since there is a "stable" version of IPFire for the ARM platform. I put the word stable in quotes because everyone who has tried to use it knows what that means: IPFire runs well, but not on all the hardware. I blogged about this "here":http://planet.ipfire.org/post/why-ipfire-does-not-run-on-all-arm-hardware in full length and stated that I was getting a bit "tired":http://planet.ipfire.org/post/on-supporting-legacy-hardware about supporting legacy hardware.

Hello fellow IPFire users,

this is the official release announcement of IPFire 2.17 – Core Update 90. This one comes with some new features, many updates of software packages and various minor bug fixes.

I want to tell you a little story about processors today. Those tiny pieces of silicon that are the main ingredient to our computers. Over the last couple of weeks we found out about some mind-blowing facts that I personally did not expect and that I want to tell you about.

Hello fellow IPFire users,

it is time to release the next Core Update for testing. This update comes with various security fixes and new features.

qemu-2.3.0-15 is uploaded to testing tree.
This update skips many releases so it need intensive testing.

clamav 0.98.7-29 is uploaded to testing trees. Please report results to IPFire Developer Mailinglist soon.

Trigger warning: This may be - depending on your knowledge of how encryption works - a tough read and will not always make sense. I try to give the briefest introduction to some things as I possibly can which is not really that great to be honest. I am not really good at keeping things short as you must have already noticed by this lengthly preamble. Actually I could write half a book about the topic of this blog. So please stop the read and research some things that may be a missing part in the puzzle. I will add some links every once in a while. It is good to know how these things work if you are a frequent user of IPsec and will be worth it in the end. I promise.

This is the official release announcement of IPFire 2.17 - Core Update 89. This one comes with some new features, many updates of software packages and various minor bug fixes.

I wanted to write this for a long time. Sometimes I was not really about how to put this. Those who know how I tick will also know that I am not the guy who is beating around the bush. I am usually going straight forward with the matters that bother me. And here it is again.

"N0man":http://forum.ipfire.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13259 off of the IPFire forums created a short video about Bufferbloat. It explains very briefly how the algorithm works and in what way everyone is able to use CoDel in IPFire to prevent becoming a victim of too large buffers. Thanks to him for creating this. I found this great that I wanted to share it with you on here.

We are happy to announce that the IPFire project joined the "Open Invention Network":http://www.openinventionnetwork.com/ (OIN) this week.

... writing guests posts on this blog?

I was just wondering if there are other people writing about all sorts of (even vaguely) related things about IPFire. It would be nice to have some wider topics on here, experiences, voices and so on. You name it. The only restriction we have on this blog is that the posts are written in English.

Upon request by "dnl":http://forum.ipfire.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=12916 and some other people, we do now accept donations in currencies other than Euro. This will make it easier for the people from countries with those currencies to donate the correct amount without converting your currency to Euros in advance.

Arne, Hannes and me visited an exhibition called "Embedded World" last month. A really nice one with lots of interesting new products it seems. Lots of companies took their latest developments and presented them to the public.

This is the announcement of the first testing release for IPFire 2.17 - Core Update 89. It comes with many updates of software packages and various minor bug fixes.

This is the official release announcement of IPFire 2.17 – Core Update 88 which brings fixes for several security issues in "OpenSSL":http://www.openssl.org only hours after they have been made public.

Hey,

you all know these small images that many people have in their signature on the IPFire forums?

I just got sent this from CeBIT - the world biggest computer fair that is currently going on in Hanover, Germany. Thanks to Heiner. Shuttle demonstrates some new hardware and uses IPFire on it! Just wanted to share this with you quickly and wanted to send a quick shoutout to Shuttle. I haven't looked at the hardware though. I hope you did a great job and don't disappoint me.

Hello folks,

some time has passed since my last post regarding the "GeoIP support for IPFire":http://planet.ipfire.org/post/ipfire-meets-geoip. In the meantime the funding on the IPFire wishlist hit its goal. Big thanks to all contributors!

An other week, an other major security bug. This one has not been in all the newspapers, yet, but I still wanted to drop some lines. The main thing: IPFire is kind of safe.

Since a couple of years now, we have been trying to encourage more and more people to contribute to our wiki. Today has come the day where we remove all translations of the IPFire documentation because of the following reasons:

I am very proud to present you the "Fountain Networks - IPFire Prime Box":http://www.fountainnetworks.com/fountain-networks-products/ipfire-prime-box.html. This new appliance box is something I am personally very proud of and therefore would like to share my excitement with you.

This is the official release announcement for IPFire 2.17 - Core Update 87, a new major version of the IPFire firewall distribution coming with all sorts of new features and bug fixes.

Hello planet followers,

This post is going to introduce you to guardian 2.0, which is a complete rewrite based on the idea of "guardian":http://www.chaotic.org/guardian/. The original intention was to add some missing functions to guardian, but as usual in life, things become bigger than expected.

Today is the day where you can show your favourite free software project some love. It is "I Love Free Software":http://ilovefs.org day.

Dear community,

I am going to share a few lines about adding GeoIP support to the IPFire firewall engine, which currently is founded on the "IPFire wishlist":http://wishlist.ipfire.org/wish/geoip-based-firewall-rules.

We are proud to announce the first release candidate of IPFire 2.17. A major release with many changes under the hood. Especially security improvements and hardware compatibility.

This is the official release announcement of IPFire 2.15 - Core Update 86 which brings various security fixes across several packages. Hence we recommend installing this update as soon as possible and to execute a reboot afterwards.

IPFire is available in many languages. For development and for the code itself, we use English as default. But of course is the user interface completely localized for many other languages as well. For that we use a service called Transifex.

The next IPFire 2.15 core update (86) is ready for testing. It contain again ssl and other security updates.
