I have recently talked about how to contribute to the project. As an Open Source project, we always appeal to individuals and ask them for their contributions to make IPFire better - whether that is code or donations.

When it is getting cold and the long days over summer are over, that is usually the time when developers wake up and get back to work again. Winter is always a good time for software development.

The IPFire Project is entirely independent and funded by donations which is quite a tough thing to do these days. It is hard to get donations when you don't have a budget for advertising and encourage people to do more. Unfortunately, donations are at a record low.

The next IPFire update is ready for testing! It comes with a lot of big fixes and cleanups as well as a couple of new features.

It has actually been eleven months ago, when I wrote about the chaotic story called Meltdown and Spectre. It was very clear that those were not to be the only CPU vulnerabilities of that kind and here we are now, almost a year later, and that speculation has become reality.

This is the release announcement for IPFire 2.21 - Core Update 123 - a house-keeping release with a large number of fixes and some fixes for security vulnerabilities.

ICANN will roll over the DNSSEC key signing key of the DNS root zone. All resolvers need to be updated so that DNS resolution will work after October 11, 2018 or no DNS entries can be resolved any more.

Finally, the next major version of IPFire is ready for testing. IPFire 2.2 rebases the distribution on the long-term supported Linux kernel 4.14 and many more improvements and bug fixes have found their way into the distribution.

We provide a number of different images to install IPFire on a variety of systems. That can be virtual, a small embedded system or a plain rack server that is being installed from an USB key or CD. IPFire is very very versatile and we are proud to have it running on so many different platforms.
