We host our own infrastructure here and use multiple mirror servers to cope with the amount of downloads and also to provide good redundancy. After all it is not too bad to host this project from the bandwidth's perspective since most people update anyway and for our new users, the OS image is not too large. It only has about ~150-200MB depending on the image you are downloading.
Since we have never really been to good to put news about this project into the press, we are now starting to implement a few things that we are becoming better at this. It is a pitty to me that we are having such a nice project here but too few people know about it.
Just days after releasing Core Update 115 with our brand new Captive Portal, we are releasing the next update for IPFire which is necessary because some security vulneratbilities have been found in some packages that IPFire uses. Those are @openssl@ and @wget@, but this update also brings some smaller bug fixes.
Just days after releasing Core Update 115 with our brand new Captive Portal, we already have the next one in the testing tree which brings some fixes for security vulnerabilities in @openssl@ and @wget@ as well as some bug fixes.

p(lead). Finally, we have made the move to host all of our services over TLS only. That means that any website or file that is being downloaded, any email that is being sent or received is being encrypted. Everything is secure now! Well... not really. This is a brief article about TLS considerations and some real-world issues with it.

This is the official release announcement for IPFire 2.19 - Core Update 112. Unfortunately it is a little bit behind schedule.
Hello Community,
the next Core Update is ready for testing. Unfortunately it is a little bit behind schedule since we had some last-minute changes which I have not been able to sort out in time because of loads of travelling. But now, everything is finally up to our standards and should be ready for shipment, but before we do that, we will of course have a time for our experienced testers to confirm that we did not introduce any other regressions.
This is the official release announcement of IPFire 2.19 - Core Update 111. It comes with various packages from all areas and some new features.
The first build of core111 has a gzip related bug so gunzip and zcat are not working. (This affects also the logviewer which cannot display older/compressed logs)
For the start of the second half of the year, we have a brand new Core Update available for everyone who wants to help testing. It comes with various packages from all areas and some new features.
samba 3.6.25-65 has uploaded to testing trees. Please test and report to IPFire Mailinglist.
Yesterday, I "read":https://www.netgate.com/blog/pfsense-2-5-and-aes-ni.html that pfSense won't support systems that do not have AES-NI from version 2.5 onwards any more. They state, that systems with AES-NI perform better and that this is available in many Intel processors from 2008 and AMD processors from 2010.
Although this is not really rocket science, I find this feature exciting. VPNs that switch on when you need them and switch off when they are idle. It is as simple as that. The IPsec stack inside IPFire is under constant development and improvement. With almost every single update, we introduced some minor new feature or added ciphers, integrity algorithms or simply just fixed bugs.
