It's the end of the year and so I would like to take this opportunity to recall all the things that have taken place in 2011. It has been a very successful year for the project again and we are looking forward to the hopefully even exciting year 2012.

Hello,

I just wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

At various places on the IPFire forum, you will find information about the next major release of IPFire, which will come with more zones than just "green", "red", "orange" and "blue". In this post, I would like to explain how this works and especially what role mstpd is playing in that game.

I´ve added a commit for the latest suricata release and you´ll soon be able to give it a try if you´re running a IPFire 3.x early build. Feel free to download the latest emerging rules or use oinkmaster instead.

It's already been four years since IPFire 2 was released for the first time. There has been huge progress until today, the release of version 2.11.

Hey,

I wanted to leave a quick notice for all of you who wait for the next major release of IPFire: It will be delayed by one day and released on the November 2nd.

I have uploaded clamav 0.97.3-18 to the testing tree.

This Thursday, IPFire 2.11 will be available at your newspaper kiosk in Germany. The German magazine "LinuxUser":http://www.linux-user.de/, which is a derivative from the well-known Linux Magazine, is shipping IPFire 2.11 exclusively and containing a guide on how to use the new VPN functions.

Hetzner, the web hoster where the IPFire project is hosted, had an incident this week where somebody got access to the account information of their customers.

I have added the next core to testing tree.

This is the 51st update for the second series of the IPFire firewall
distribution.

Thanks for all uses that have tested core51 yet. But since the build, there was a new kernel released with more critical fixes so we have to build it again. All uses that have already installed core51 with kernel 2.6.32.43 please install the core51 again.

A short notice for all developers who use Fedora on their workstations:

h2. Introduction to Pakfire 3.x

Most of you will know, that we (the IPFire developers) have been working very hard on IPFire 3.x recently. It's still hard to tell many details about it, because so many things are still not done, but on the other hand, we are proud that so much is already finished by now.

I have uploaded samba 3.5.11-36 to the testing tree.

I have uploaded core51 update to testing tree. Because this update contain a kernel update it should tested on many machines as possible.

c't Magazin, a German computer magazine, which is available on August 1st 2011 has an article titled Server-Bausätze - Schlüsselfertige Linux-Server (server building kits - turn-key linux servers.

I have uploaded clamav 0.97.2-17 to the testing tree.

Today, we are going to release the 50th update of IPFire 2.9. Because of that fact, a more detailed report:

How time flies. Already 6 years ago, IPFire was forked from the IPCop codebase to break new ground. Ways should be differentiated from its predecessor, to make installation, configuration and securing a small office and home networks easier and more functional.

Not surprisingly, the IPFire project now has a Twitter.

I have uploaded qemu 0.14.1-12 to the testing tree.

I have added the next core to testing tree.

Our hoster will do a firmware upgrade and our services might be unavailable for a short period of time.

Since people were requesting this very often we have decided to add a simple way to enter static routes.

Today I have build and uploaded a prerelease of the next IPFire Core Version with polish installer and webif.

I have uploaded samba 3.5.9-35 to the testing tree.

I have uploaded clamav 0.97.1 to the testing tree.

I have added the next core to testing tree.

Today, I contributed a few lines of code to a project that is called lldpd and built by Vincent Bernat.

I have uploaded two updated packages to the testing tree:

Another big topic on the last summit was the way how we distribute IPFire in the future. Hardware performance increases and it is common to have lots of RAM. Happily, IPFire does not have the requirement for multiple gigabytes although there are installations out there that have more than 4 gigabytes that cannot be addressed.

On the summit there was time to play a little bit with the wirless network connections. Especially me does not know many things about 3G networks (called mostly UMTS in Germany) and so I got a chance to figure some things out.

After a initial refresh of my git knowledge especially the branching feature, I´ve added some commands to Pakfire3 wiki

This is going to be a short series if reports that sum up things that were done on the last developer summit.

This evening, we are going to work on the servers and so there will be a short outage. Please be patient...

I want to use my first entry at the planet to detail you which init system will be used in the next IPFire version and how it came about.

Hello everybody,

IPFire 2.9 Core 48 is a bugfix release and brings minor feature updates.

March 18, 2011

I recently hat a great talk to some of the people who are involved into the "Icinga project":http://www.icinga.org/ at CeBIT.

The next developer meeting is imminent in a couple of weeks where we discuss things that will be done in the future and make some steering decisions.

The addons htop and iperf have been updated in the testing trunk, so feel free to test them. We will add them to stable tree later.

Hello everybody,

today we release IPFire 2.9 Core 47.
IPFire 2.9 Core 47 is a bugfix release and brings minor feature updates.

This is a nice article I have found recently on the Fedora planet:

February 28, 2011

The Samba team has released a security Update to version 3.5.7
it is currently in testing and soon also in normal pakfire tree.
Please update as soon as possible.

After a long evaluation time because I wanted to play safe every question and every problem is solved I am proud to present our Debian squeeze howto to get Xen 4.x running. Have a look at our wiki and find out how it works.

February 12, 2011

This is the 46th update of the IPFire distribution.

At the moment this keyserver is down. So new installation has a problem to verify the pakfire signature because they can't import the needed keys.

February 5, 2011

Got it running after some problems with my old power supply, so I´ve decided to go for a new picoPSU. System consumes 20-25W at the moment. I plugged in my Mtron 16GB SSD and 2GB 1333MHz DDR3. I needed to update the bios to get speedstep running, but now all 4 threads are running at 1GHz. You can see some details from fireinfo profile

February 3, 2011

I have successfully configured a wireless Access-Point at 5Ghz. It works for Germany only at channels 36-48 because the higher channels needs "DFR".

Today we are going to release core update 45 which is a bugfix release and we strongly recommend to install this as soon as possible.

I have uploaded some new/updated packages to the testing tree:

As we are trying to increase the information flow to reach all of you out there, we decided to create our own facebook site.

January 28, 2011

Since the early hours of today, the free dynamic DNS service is not running properly. Updates of ip addresses that get sent to "DynDNS":http://www.dyndns.org succeed but in the end, the DNS servers do send out old information.

We have been testing a new piece of software lately that I want to introduce to you and hopefully find some experts to enhance it and get it better.

January 17, 2011

I don't know who of you have read about the news from facebook going to give access to addresses and phone numbers...

Ein paar von euch werden es schon festgestellt haben, dass wenn der IPFire am Kabelmodem hängt und man einen Geschwindigkeitstest macht, nicht die volle Bandbreite angezeigt bekommt.

January 15, 2011

After the last maintainance release in november 2010, the developers are proud to release a new version 2.9. About 400 different changes were taken in this build and there were about one hundred testers that have installed at least one of the beta versions.

Dear community,

it is my pleasure to introduce you to the new IPFire planet.
